Among the print trends from the Spring 2012 runway shows, the use of ombreĀ“ colors, or gradients, was one of my favorites. There were far too many to picture below, so I focused on a few examples that I thought were especially innovative. It’s great to see how designers are utilizing this colorful technique in such diverse ways, too, ranging from subtle and simple (Saunders, Wauchob) to bold and complex (Etro). A little something for everyone.

You’ll have no trouble channeling your inner feline with this trend in conversational prints: cats. Now, I love cats more than most people, but I don’t normally wear it on my sleeve.. however that may change if I can get my paws [did I just write that?] on any of the amazing items pictured below. Are you loving this trend, or would you rather eat some tuna and take a nap?

Although there are different ways of interpreting [and naming] this trend, you can’t deny that it’s out there. I am quite fond of the term foulard, although I’m not sure it covers the whole breadth of the style. It’s part scarf, part menswear, and has a strong cross-over with the geometric styling of Islamic patterns. I love seeing how these designers have incorporated such a classic element into their spring collections.

I just saw the new Versace for H&M ad campaign by Mert &Marcus and had to share them. This print-laden collection features plenty of colorful items in the iconic and decadent style that Versace is known for. I’m not sure if I’ll be adding much to my own closet, but I could certainly give that pillow a good home. Click here to view the entire collection, which will launch in 300 stores on November 17.

We all expect to see floral prints in a spring show, but several designers have seemingly reinvented the floral using digital media and printing techniques. You might call it fashion forward, I like to think of it as florals from the future. I’m not sure who’s ready to rock this trend just yet, but I love it and imagine we’ll be seeing more of it as accessibility to technology continues to grow.
