The wind has been howling non-stop so I decided to employ it’s help in showing off a gorgeous gift I received last week, from a friend located in Dubai. She said the bright colors and geometric pattern made her think of me, and now I’m the lucky owner of this ridiculously amazing, hand-made Afghan Pashmina. A million thank yous.

A shout out to Booooooom for featuring an artist that really floats my boat, Michael Dotson. His paintings abound with bright, contrasting colors, geo shapes, print mixing, texture for days – and all presented in a semi-surreal, retro manner. That’s pretty much a recipe for awesome, right? Check out his website to see more of his work!

On a recent excursion to The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, I fell madly in love with these watercolor reproductions of the ancient Minoan Frescoes of Knossos. The detailed ornamentation and patchwork scenery have a folky vibe that I swoon for, and offer a ton of inspiration for artists and surface designers. I could easily picture these motifs on a set of dishes over at a place like Anthropolgie, wouldn’t you agree? While I’m jealous I couldn’t see these gorgeous sights for myself in person, I’m eternally grateful to artist and fellow textile designer Liz Brizzi for sharing her photos from a recent trip to Israel, Greece and Turkey. This post is the final installment of photos from this trip, I certainly feel I saved the juiciest inspiration for last. But don’t you fret, Ms. Brizzi has hinted there is another trip on her horizon. Look forward to more Brizzi Abroad in the new year. To find out more about Liz, visit her website and Etsy shop.
