I would need additional fingers on my hands in order to count all of the things that I love about this editorial from the December 2011 issue of Wonderland Magazine. Featuring model Charlotte Free, styled by Grace Cobb and photographed by Elena Rendina, the concept for this photo shoot combines numerous overlapping trends, including [but not limited to] head-to-toe print coverage, print mixing, surrealism, mixed media techniques, garden florals, vintage geometrics, graphic backdrops and psychedelic motifs. Most people would likely find this overwhelming, but to, me this shoot was pulled off with the perfect amount of panache and restraint. I am also a huge sucker for pink hued locks.

As a surface design studio, we love to see prints pop up in new and unexpected places. Nail art is a trend I’ve been seeing a lot more of lately; it’s unique and quirky, and perhaps best of all, a temporary commitment. You can get creative and attempt to paint a delicate design yourself with the help of one of these cool tutorials by Refinery 29. Or go low-maintenance and buy a design to apply at home, my favorite being these water marbling stickers in the special edition Cynthia Rowley Birchbox set. Whichever the case, endless options abound. I’m especially enamored with the celestial set down at the bottom.. simply out of this world.

Here’s one trend we’ve been seeing more and more of recently, particularly in the world of accessories: Tapestry. You might also call it needlepoint, and it overlaps with other closely related terms including cross-stitch and jacquard. The feeling it evokes is very sweet and grandmotherly, which is why I especially appreciate the irony created by those bad-ass Jeffrey Campbell kitty-cat platform boots.

Now here’s a type of design that we think works anytime of year – Asian geos and florals. They seem to be popping up in all types of surface design, from the runway to dresser drawer knobs. The ornate clutch from Topshop is particularly drool-worthy.
