Unless you’re a photographer, the word ‘bokeh’ might be a new one for you. It’s a Japanese term for the blurred, out-of-focus effect used in photographs, often resembling ethereal dots of color and light. Technical jargon aside, I think we can all agree it’s rad, and makes for the perfect marriage of photography and abstract textile design.

As fans of the rising trend of digital printing, we swooned over these intricately detailed architectural prints from the Fall 2013 runway shows. Although it may not be the easiest trend to capture, it’s multidisciplinary approach of merging photography, sculpture and architecture into a high fashion format is truly eye catching.

For your Fall 2013 collection, give your floral prints a modern twist by deconstructing them, petal by petal. Exploding florals carry a sense of movement and burst of energy not found in more traditional floral designs, as if torn apart by a sweeping fall breeze.

Earlier this year I had the great pleasure of working very closely with an up-and-coming Women’s line based out of Texas, Hi! Expectation. Tasked with the job of creating prints for their Spring 2013 collection, I worked hand in hand with their design director to ensure the artwork suited their colorful and eclectic vibe.
