Lately I’ve been looking at the world through rose colored glasses. I don’t know if I can give all the credit to Justina Blakeney and her #plantsonpink, (although credit where credit is due), but it seems that nature photos awash in bright pink hues have been popping up consistently in my own photo album.

Here are a few images taken on my favorite camera app on my phone, Hipstamatic. I like this app because of all various film + lens combinations that are possible, and using the shake-to-randomize feature which often produces unexpected results. Hence a pink Lake Tahoe.

The other method I used, in the case of the pink palm tree, is an app called DeluxeFX, which has a few false color options. I thought it had a pretty neat effect in this case.

I love the surreal and psychedelic quality and think it makes for great color inspiration.

Models may still be chasséing down the runway for the Fall 2015 season, but several color stories have already been carved out quite clearly. Despite all the controversy it has caused, Pantone’s color of 2015, Marsala, was quite popular this season and can be found across multiple palettes, both in starring and supporting roles. Aside from the Flamenco color story, this season’s palettes echo a decidedly earthy tone, which lends itself quite well to the romantically bohemian prints in which many designers have invested.

New York Fashion week is in full swing, and although there are plenty of shows (and several other cities) remaining, a few key color palettes are becoming rather evident. If you actually look back at the Resort 2015 color stories, you’ll find that Spring colors have not drastically changed from the previous season. Blue and yellow are both quite strong on their own, if not a bit softer this time around. Orange is quite the pop color, which you’ll find in shades from peach to rust. Although they didn’t make it into this particular color roundup, it’s worth mentioning that pastels were represented in large numbers (especially baby blue), as well as high-contrast prints in black and white.

We are such big fans of this bold, colorful trend that has been going strong for well over a year. Traditionally, color blocking originates more from the side of fashion design and sewing construction rather than textiles, but there’s no reason you can’t incorporate this look into your print designs. It’s even a little like the collage / Matisse trend that’s been growing in popularity, although more simplified and dramatically enlarged. Be sure to check out the Resort collections from Missoni, Roland Mouret, and Prabal Gurung for additional examples on how to apply this look to your own designs.
