The ornately detailed designs of Ancient Egypt are highly regarded at this art studio, which is why we’d like to see it become a bigger trend. I’ve seen trickles of it here and there for a good while, but nothing near the scope of the tribal trends of the last year or so. The most abundant and popular interpretations seem to be in the form of jewelry, so when Mara Hoffman’s King Tut print became available on bags, swim suits and dresses, we pretty much flipped out. Although this textural trend isn’t entirely new, it’s so expansive that it deserves it’s own post. It only seems natural that the resurgence of prints in fashion and interior design would spawn an exploration of thread and the fiber arts, spilling over to all facets of art and design. Embroidery has become so incredibly popular, and is popping up in all kinds of unexpected places. When contrasted with flat, two dimensional imagery it creates an almost surreal juxtaposition of texture and technique. If you’re a tactile person like I am, you’ll have no problem finding ways to add a little embroidered goodness into your life.

Now here’s a type of design that we think works anytime of year – Asian geos and florals. They seem to be popping up in all types of surface design, from the runway to dresser drawer knobs. The ornate clutch from Topshop is particularly drool-worthy.
